Passbox Family costs €10 a year for the whole family, however many people belong to it. Family plans elsewhere stop at five or six people:

Can I switch plans later?
Yes. Start on Private and turn it into a family later, or move a family's vaults into a team. Your vault stays encrypted the whole time, and you can export it at any time.
How many people can join a family?
As many as you like. Family costs €1 a month or €10 a year for the whole family, whether you are two or twelve, from the grandparents to the children.
Who counts as a member?
On Teams, a member is one person with their own account in your organization, and you pay per member. On Private you pay for one person, and on Family one price covers everyone. Guests, AI agents and service accounts never count as members.
What can guests do?
Guests are unlimited and always free. They get view-only access to the vaults you share with them and nothing else: they don't see your other vaults, your groups or the rest of the member list. Good for freelancers, an agency, the babysitter or your tax advisor.
Do AI agents cost extra?
No. AI agents and service accounts are free with fair use and never count as members. Passbox does not run AI models itself: you bring your own, on your device, on your own server (for example Ollama or vLLM) or with an EU provider such as Mistral, IONOS, STACKIT or Scaleway and your own key. Your passwords and other secrets never reach a model.
What if someone forgets their master password?
In families and teams, recovery through the organization is on by default: an admin (in a family, the organizer) checks that it is really you, by phone or in person, and helps you set a new master password. To be clear: this means admins can restore access to your account, and an approving admin could technically read your data. Every recovery is logged and mailed to you, and you can turn it off in Settings. How recovery works.
How much do I save with yearly billing?
Yearly billing costs ten times the monthly price, so you get two months free: €10 instead of €12 on Private and on Family, and €30 instead of €36 per member on Teams.
Is self-hosting really free, with every feature?
Yes. Passbox is open source under the MIT License. The self-hosted server includes every feature, for any number of members, without a license key. There is no enterprise edition.
What do I need to host Passbox myself?
A Linux server with Docker Compose and a domain name. Docker Compose runs Passbox, PostgreSQL and Caddy, which gets the HTTPS certificate automatically, plus encrypted nightly backups. The self-hosting guide has the details.
Where is my data stored?
The hosted service runs in data centers in Germany. When you host Passbox yourself, your data stays on your server, wherever it is. In both cases the server only stores encrypted data.
Can you read my data on the hosted service?
No. Hosted and self-hosted Passbox run the same code, and your vault is encrypted on your device in both cases. The server only stores data it cannot read.
